IRISH CULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING - January 10, 2016

The January 2016 meeting of the Irish Cultural Society was
brought to order by President Lou Kelley at 3:15pm. Sister
Carmel did the invocation and then Lou led us in the Pledge
of Allegiance.

When the minutes were read, Jane McDaniel had a correction.
When she spoke of the Tell-a-thon for storytelling at the
last minute, the minutes should have read 16, not 46,
countries. The correction was made. After that the minutes
were approved as revised.

Our treasurer, Bob Barron said we have no outstanding bills
now. The latest expense was the Christmas dinner in
mid-December at just under $600. Jane questioned why her
husband’s check was returned to him, and the situation was
explained to her.

There are no bills or claims this month. Under correspondence,
Lou said that the British Society of Texas wants to be
included on our webpage as a ‘friend’. Discussion followed
about the old and new British societies in town. It was
decided to include them on our website, which takes you to
their Facebook page.

Under membership, Kay noted that the same 2 new members that
didn’t come to November’s meeting didn’t come again today.
She would like to do an updated roster quite soon, so please
get your information/check to her ASAP, or let her know if
you are not rejoining. 21 members are present today.

The plans and programs chair reviewed the upcoming programs
for the next several months. Social chair was not present.
The scholarship chair had nothing to report, and the library
had a number of items checked out today.

There was no old business. Under new business we went over
the March calendar of Irish events to show the difficulty
in scheduling an IHD for this year. Lou went over the form
to use when looking for new venues for IHD and the March
dance. Merita had a detailed list of suggestions for
combining IHD and the dance in one day. Jane volunteered
to check out Blessed Sacrament, John will look at St. Paul’s,
and Henry will see about VFWs. After more discussion, it
was determined and agreeable to those present that a weekend
in April would better serve us than trying to ‘shoehorn’ our
activities into the month of March. However, a motion was
not made nor was a vote taken on this subject.

The business meeting was adjourned at 4:12pm, to be followed
by refreshments and a musical program by Mark Stone on
the bodhran.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan S. Feeley
