MINUTES 11 January 2015

MEETING - January 11, 2015

This month's meeting of the ICS was called to order by President Lou Kelley at 3:15pm.
He reminded people to contact Kay if they are having trouble getting the monthly
newsletter or ICS notifications. Invocation was given by Sister Carmel, and then Lou led
us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read, Joan [Moody] making the
motion and Henry [McCann] seconding it. No treasurer's report today. Lou said there was
no correspondence sent to the ICS this past month.

There are 25 members and 1 guest at today's meeting. The Ruffins [Joe and Eva] attended our
Christmas dinner and today Mrs. Ruffm joined the ICS. She told us a little about her life and
what led her to be at the ICS meeting today. Kay, our membership chair, said she had called
or sent notes to all the people who haven't sent in their dues yet, and heard back from
several. Lou will send the 2015 membership roster through e-mail very soon. Kay has copies
for anyone who doesn't have access to a computer. Lou gave instructions for accessing the
newsletter on-line.

Joan Moody announced that her book on the Irish in San Antonio will be published by the
end of year. Congratulations, Joan!

Lou went through the committee reports at this time. Susan and Helena gave updates on the
work they are doing with plans and programs and publicity. This is the time of year that
we have plenty to do to prepare for the upcoming Irish Heritage Day on March 1st and the
annual dance on March 28th this year. Ethna [Social Committee] did not have a report, other
than to ask people to sign up to volunteer for the tasting table at IHD. Susan has those
sign-up sheets with her today.

Under new business, Joan is sending Lou the information about a play at the UIW the second
and third weeks of February, so that he can send an e-mail out to our members.

Lou asked about the status of Irish language classes in San Antonio. Helena said she has
a class starting its fourth year of lessons. There are no beginner classes as far as she
knows. Helena asked if there is a new stage at LVCC. There isn't. She says that Irish dancers
have a floor they rent out.. Susan will pursue this possibility.

The business meeting was adjourned at 3:47 pm, with Merita [McCann] making the motion
and Joan seconding.

Respectfully Submitted
