Irish Cultural Society

of San Antonio Texas

The September 11th, 2016 meeting of the Irish Cultural Society
was called to order by President Lou Kelley at 3:18pm. Lou
provided the invocation and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance,
as no religious were in attendance to lead the prayer.
The minutes of the June meeting were read by the secretary,
but before they could be approved as read, Joan requested
that the words, “her father”, be inserted after the name
Tom Ryan, so the relationship to Sister Eilish would be clear.
So noted. The minutes were then adopted, with Henry making
the motion and Bernadette seconding.
Treasurer Bob Barron had a handout for us today with the
income and expenses from 8/1/15 to 7/31/16, and went over
the figures with us. Essentially, we can go on as we have
been doing for about five more years.
Under bills and claims, Bob said he’d be taking the $750
check to St. Anthony’s this next week as our donation to
the church, because they provide us a meeting place. Also,
Susan mentioned that she had contacted the church about the
problem with the building not always being open for us, and
that we had our June meeting in the parlor room of the nuns’
residence. The nuns saw how overheated our members were
becoming, waiting for someone to open the building for us,
and they graciously offered their place. As a result,
Susan now has a key to open the building and parlor room!
Under committee reports:
Kay, our membership chair said that we have 18 members in
attendance today. She explained the theater and theater
with dinner deals that are available to us in the coming
months at the Tobin and Majestic theaters. The flyers
are included in this month’s newsletter. Dinner would be
at the Biga on the River, with free parking. It would
cost $99 for two dinners and two tickets to the Majestic,
and the Five Tenors concert coming up is one of the
available evenings. She thanked those who have already
paid their dues for the coming year.
Plans and Programs chair, Susan, reported on the programs
at our meetings for the next few months, and that the
Outback already has our reservation for the December
Christmas dinner on the second Sunday. There were no
newsletter, scholarship, or library reports.
Joan reminded us of the two upcoming viewings of the 1916
movie, the first showing at UIW on September 25th. The
second will be at Central Library on October 1st.
Under new business the Plans and Programs chair announced
our meeting days through June of 2017. Dates for Irish
Heritage Day and a possible dance have not yet been
The meeting was adjourned at 3:55 with Henry making the
motion and Merita seconding.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan S. Feeley
ICS Secretary.
