IRISH CULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING - October 15, 2006

The meeting of the Irish Cultural Society was called to order
at 5:15 PM by President Gene Logan, following a musical program
presented by the San Antonio Pipes and Drums. Forty five members
were present. There were seven guests in attendance.

Gene advised members to carefully read the November newsletter
as the November meeting will be held in the residential house
down the street from St. Gregory’s hall.

The minutes were read and corrections were made regarding the
place and day of the Christmas Party. It will be held on
Saturday, Dec 2 at the OLD SAN FRANCISCO STEAKHOUSE.
Details will be forthcoming in the November newsletter.

The Annual Treasurer’s Report for the 12months ending
Sept.30, 2006 was given by Treasurer, Bob Slattery. The
ending cash amount is $5,677.74. For further details.
Please refer to the Treasurer’s Report sheet that was
handed out to the membership.

Also the Annual Budget was presented to the membership.
Bob clarified some items in the budget----one of these
being the Scholarship Fund which has not been paid out in
three years. Lou Kelley explained that the essays
submitted by potential awardees have been plagiarized. The
applicants for the $500 award are required to write a 500
word essay on a person of Irish ancestory, detailing their
accomplishments . There was also a question regarding the
item of “Irish Children”. Bob says that is a mistake and
to leave it in. There was no further discussion, and a
motion was made and seconded to approve the Annual
Budget. The budget was unanimously approved.

Gene asked for suggestions for ways to retain new people.
One suggestion was for us to participate more in the Harp
and Shamrock activities.

The Program and Plan committee report that the program
for next month is on track.

Joan Moody, Publicity Chairman has been successful in
getting notices of ICS events printed in the San Antonio
Express News.

Maura has been able to obtain two $400 Southwest Airline
tickets for the Irish Heritage Day raffle.

There was no further business. The meeting was adjourned
at 5:50 PM.
