IRISH CULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING - October 23, 2011

Minutes - ICS - October 23rd, 2011

The October meeting of the ICS was called to order by
President Lou Kelley at 3:01pm. He asked for special
prayers for our treasurer-elect Dan White and for
other ICS members who are in ill health at this time.
After the invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, the
minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved
as read.
Kay Delaney, membership chair, said that membership
dues have been coming in steadily. If you haven’t paid
your annual dues yet, please do so as quickly as
possible, so that the yearly membership directory can be
printed out by the end of the year.
Today we have 34 members and 1 guest here.
There were no public relations, social or scholarship
reports this month. The librarian recounted how many
book donations have been coming in these past few months,
even from people who are not members of the ICS or any
of the other Irish groups in town.
Helena Ryan, our program chair, said we would be
hearing from Sister Corinne Walsh in just a few minutes,
and reiterated that next month we will have a “Keats
poetry with musical accompaniment” program by Dr.
Goodhugh and Joe DiMott.
There were a few questions about the menu choices for
our Christmas dinner, which were settled. She said
that there are going to be three raffle prizes, and
several members on working on arrangements to select a
charity to which the dinner guests may contribute,
should they care to.
Helena announced programs at St. Thomas College,
Department of Irish Studies in Houston, for the fall.
There will be a gala on December 4th.
Also, Daniel O’Flaherty will be at the Josephine
Theater on Dec. 3rd. The Chieftains will be performing
at the Majestic theater on Feb. 29th. It is being
looked into to see whether or not we can get enough
participants to qualify for a reduced group rate.
Also the Comhaltas holiday get-together will be
Dec. 3rd at the Radius downtown.
Lou spoke about the Light Wave band and the arrangements
that have been made for them to perform at our Christmas
dinner and possibly for ICS functions in the future.
On behalf of Tyler Tully, Kay announced that the Gaelic
Football group will be holding a golf tournament soon.
She has flyers if you are interested.
Today’s meeting was adjourned at 3:43pm, with refreshments
and an Irish dancing presentation in the St. Gregory’s
Community Hall.
